camax is the only brand of asian circle lenses that i can wear daily. they have a higher oxygen content than most other circle lenses and aren't as thick. however, the limbal ring is still big enough to give you the emphasized "doll" look without looking alien-y.

i approve!

anyway -- i've been exploring more of MUFE's stuff after my HD seminar -- and although supermattelooserpowder isn't HD makeup, it is definitely a product that will stay in my kit (and replace my MAC setting powder). =X yes, i said it. REPLACE.

i've had this powder on for about 15+ hours and i haven't touched it up. 4.5 stars! (why not 5? i need to test it more to receive a solid 5.)

not sure if i've ever mentioned it here but i had a horrible experience with my first set of eyelash extensions that i got done in singapore. they were brittle, unnaturally curly, and were really messy (LOTS of visible glue clumped together). HOWEVER, i decided to give it one more time after being referred to a new lash artist by one of my old bro-friends. (yes, a guy referred me!)

in singapore, they straight up put medical tape on my lower lids (the really sticky kind you DON'T use on your face -- felt like duct tape).

i got the J-curl lashes. these are the most natural-looking for most asians. they also have a C-curl, which is curlier; and a D-curl which is ridiculously curly. the length also varies. i got a combo of 10mm-12mm lashes.

**the main building is dark brown with orange writing (that says "SOLO" -- don't ask because i don't know). i parked @ the CAMP (shopping center) a block away because there was no more parking in the building's tiny lot.

LASH ARTIST: Noriko ("Nori")

PRICES:
$120: 65 individual lashes per eye
$100: 50 individual lashes per eye
**you'll probably get either of the above options if it's your first time. for a more full look, e.g., 75 lashes per eye, the price goes up to $140.

i got ~55 lashes per eye, which is full but not too crazy. they have additional pricing for more/less lashes or fills that are quite reasonable. they also do japanese 3d nail art. (btw- my lash artist also won 1st place at a nail art competition last year!)

TIME: very important!! a full set of lash extensions takes ~2 hours, so don't drink redbull or coffee before you go -- or just remember to empty out your bladder beforehand!

product review: l'oreal sublime mousse hair dye

i LOVE foam hair dyes because application is so easy. before l'oreal came out with their sublime mousse hair dye, i was using the japanese foam hair dye (kao prettia) with OK results. i say "OK" only because prettia faded out quickly. so when l'oreal came out with their own foam hair dye, i was quick to try it. my favorite drugstore brand hair dye is l'oreal anyway (l'oreal preference).

the package comes with the typical applicator with developer, color, latex gloves, and a decent-sized tube of conditioner. i REALLY liked that they had PURE DARKEST BROWN as a color option since regular dark brown isn't always dark enough for me. i don't ever want to go black again either because black tends to become permanent if your hair is already porous from multiple chemical treatments -- like mine. no more color correction for me!

BEFORE PHOTO (3/9/11):

excuse my psychopathic expression. hahahaa as you can see, my hair was almost black @ the roots and medium brown everywhere else.
AFTER PHOTOS (3/13/11):

2.5 months later, my ponytail and my regular locks are still dark!

final words? LOVE this hair dye. it beats Prettia by FAR. if i rate this a 5, i'd rate prettia a 2. Nice n Easy also came out with a foam hair dye (which i bought but haven't tried), but it's going to be hard to beat this! L'oreal FTW!

while i wait for the hubs to get ready for our dinner date, thought i'd post pics of my new lipgloss!

revlon super lustrous lipgloss is certainly not new but it's new for me... and i think i like it! goes on creamy like butta. looks and feels like MAC cremesheen. the color i'm wearing is 'peach petal.' good color to wear over your nekkid lips or nude lipstick -- totally kim k style! the more you put on, the more milky-pale it looks. i didn't want to look too pale, so i added a touch of liner to it.

btw - i'm not sure if you can see from this webcam pic, but i'm wearing MAC pearlglide pencil liner in 'industrial' on my lower lids. it's a bluish, shimmery liner. love it!

i'm also wearing nars 'deep throat' (can they make better names? geez.) on my cheeks. it's a nice soft pink that you can layer. foundation - nothing else but revlon colorstay! it's still my favvvv. my canvas starts with revlon colorstay foundation (for combination/oily) + MAC invisible set powder + MAC fix+.

Where to Buy: any drug store
Overall Rating: 4+/5 stars
Tip: reapply every 2 hrs or so. this is not a stay-put lipgloss.

MAC pro longwear foundation

i haven't been keeping up w/ my MAC products, and now, i find out that they came out with a new foundation that's pretty good! BUT **don't get too excited yet** it comes with a lot of pre-requisites (for lack of a better word). for fellow cakefaces who have normal to combination skin and don't mind the matte look, this foundation is for you if you have a lot to cover. ;-)

MAC pro longwear spf 10 foundation
this foundation has great coverage (good for people like me w/ scars and redness) and it stays put even without makeup base! here's the skinny:

PROS: full coverage; doesn't oxidize to orange; decent oil control; long lasting (this foundation really doesn't budge if you apply it correctly), so it requires fewer touch-ups, which means less germs getting piled on your face!

CONS: proper application is a bit tricky compared to other liquid foundations. (i'm still trying to figure out the BEST way to do this.) dries a little rubbery and you have to rub/blend quickly before it dries to avoid getting streaks (and it dries VERY quickly). finish is extra-matte. some ppl like this, others prefer dewy. (dewy does look healthier)

**EDIT ADDED**

here are a few pics from today. this picture is taken 12 hours after application with NO touch-ups throughout the day.

Tip: not recommended for dry skin. for full coverage, layer-layer-layer and set with mineral or setting powder. to make the finished look more dewy, try a spritz of FIX+. also, since this foundation doesn't budge -- you need to put that much more effort into removal at the end of the day. also, this foundation runs a bit darker than MAC studio fix fluid. if you're between colors with studio fix, go with the lighter shade.

*etude house brow liner in grey - why grey you say? on your natural days (if you have dark brown/black hair and brows), you can just shade in the missing brow areas and leave the house. tip - rub product on tissue or skin back and forth before you start using it. this is to remove the chalked layer.

*daiso japan half lashes #13 - these are my ultimate FAVORITE lashes to put on my clients right now. jazz up your already-long lashes by putting these on your outer lash line OR add them on top of your regular criss-cross lashes to make them more dramatic like this:

these are pics from my makeup session w/ my friend, chelsea lee. she doesn't want me to post before pictures yet but allowed me to describe some of her concerns.

chelsea's biggest concerns were her "square-ish" face (which i didn't think was that square) and redness (due to multiple pimples she just popped). thanx to MAC full cover foundation and bronzer/contouring kit, we were able to achieve an acceptable look. chelsea also requested pouty lips. (i've described how i did this in the "lips" section below.)

we decided to go for the MAC fafi look:

chelsea also doesn't have double eyelids so we faked the funk using some highlighting of the upper lid right above the liner.

breakdown of what i used:
face: MAC full coverage foundation - NC35, NW35
MAC bronzer - refined golden (for contouring)
MAC D'squared contour kit - accentuate/sculpt
MAC eyeshadow - brun (for contouring)
** i had to improvise w/ the foundation because chelsea was darker than my darkest foundation. so, we did the best w/ could with the darkest foundation i had at the time, then bronzed it all over to create a darker complexion. it also didn't help that chelsea had several drinks prior to her makeup session (and she does have the asian glow) -- which we had to cover up.

i've always been curious about korres because i've heard their products work well AND they're more eco-friendly than most. so, when i was @ sephora returning something, i picked this up!

korres: bronze and protect trio

it includes:
1) moisturizing face primer: 99% natural and silicone-free. i've been recommended this product by another MUA and have been itching to try it out. i have a HUGE tube of laura mercier primer to use up first, so i was going to wait. howeverrrrr, when i saw a mini version of it in this trio, i had more of a reason to buy the set. =)

first impressions: i actually really like it! it goes on smooth and really sinks into your skin. how well it holds up my makeup --- we'll see.

2) watermelon tinted moisturizer SPF 30 - light sand: - yes, you read right! WATERMELON. watermelon is a good source of the powerful antioxidant, lycopene, (whfoods.com) which helps fight/neutralize free radicals. (free radicals are the invisible killers of youthful skin!) it also has SPF 30, which is going to give you some protection from the harsh UV rays. (how MUCH protection is limited because i don't see the most powerful sunblockers in the list of ingredients.) either way, its better than going out w/ no protection.

first impressions: gosh, do all of korres products go on like water to dry soil? this tinted moisturizer really sinks into your skin well. or should i say "plants" into your skin? it's kind of difficult to describe... it sinks in well but has good coverage for a tinted moisturizer. i guess i'm trying to say that it doesn't feel greasy, and i don't feel like the product is just sitting on top of my skin. the only CON with this i see is that i don't think it's going to give me enough UVA protection for sunny southern california! (for more info on UVA vs. UVB, read here if you have the time) 'light sand' is a little light for my NC25-30 skin, but after setting w/ my normal powder, it looks perfect.

3) monoi oil bronzing powder - sunglow light: wth is monoi? it's a french-tahitian oil consisting of pure coconut oil and the tiare flower (tahiti's national flower). what's good about monoi oil is that it is rich in methyl salicylate a skin-soothing agent. it's also a naturally concentrated emollient which penetrates and rehydrates the skin, AND shields it against external damages. (monoil.com, wikipedia.com) ok sorry, i went off there. this bronzer isn't going to fully protect your face from the world, but at least you know what its advertised ingredient is known for!

first impressions: LOVE the color! sunglow light is more of a peachy sunkissed color vs. the dark bronzed look that you can look dirty with. it definitely provides a sunkissed glow. you can use it as a blush OR a bronzer, and is very layer-able. sunglow warm (which is the other color available in a trio) is more of the typical MAC orangey-brown bronzer color.

i am very happy w/ my purchase because each product on its own is at least $28 in its full size. (btw, the bronzer and tinted moisturizer included in this trio are the full-size versions, so this is a steal!) also, all products are free from: parabens, sulfates, dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, triclosan, and GMOs (genetically modified organisms).

got a new nose ring! well, i bought it a while ago but wore it out for the first time today. it's actually a C-shaped hoop and is made from 316L stainless steel (which i prefer over gold, silver, other). it's not as common as a CBR (captive bead ring) which goes all the way around with a ball closure. with this nose ring, there is no ball to worry about inhaling. lol you just put it on from the inside of your nose and hoop around! i love it!

the only down side is that you have to bend it to fit the curve of your nostril. if you wear it as is, you end up with a VERY round ring sticking out of your nose. i like it to hug my nostril instead of it sticking out like a cow. (my mom would still call me a cow with this too, however. OH well, mommy moo!)

i've been so curious to try Dolly Wink products because of the hype, and let me tell you... for once, the hype was well deserved! (for the liner at least!) i do want to try Dolly Wink lashes, but they're a bit pricey compared to the cute and super cheap brands i currently buy. Dolly Wink = $17.99 (more or less)/2 pairs - and they only come in pairs - vs. Korean brands and my new fav, PA lashes = $2.50-$3.50/pair. i'm pretty sure i'll try Dolly Wink lashes one day though. ooohhhhkkay, on to my review for the liquid liner!

the verdict: although i LOVE my K-Palette, i have to say i love Dolly Wink more! =X UH-OHHHHHHHH. why?

for one, it is VERY pigmented. the black is super black from the first use. (the picture above doesn't do it justice.) with K-Palette, you have to layer on a few coats in order to get it dark-dark. (i didn't mind it in the past because it stayed on forever.) however, Dolly Wink also has good lasting power! i wore this liner on a HOT day when i went to the racetrack this past weekend. it stayed put on my oily lids through the hot weather and my gross sweating.

water test:

Dolly Wink and K-Palette performed about the same under water. both did not budge; however, when rubbed approx 8-9 times, the liner washed off easily. i also tried this when removing it from my eyes later on @ night. it almost seems like the Dolly Wink liner is a better version of K-Palette. a cherry on top for the Dolly Wink is that it's a wee bit cheaper ($16 vs. $14.99). looks like i found a new HG!

oh geez, its the notorious phrase again. i REALLY wanted to like this mascara but it didn't quite meet up to my expectations (nor its name... by far)! why?

1) it didn't volume or lengthen enough
2) it dried crispy. EWWW~ this made it very difficult to layer
3) to get noticeable volume, i had to put at least 3 full coats (and still, it didn't give my lashes that plush thick look)

i tried it for 2 days and was going to give it another shot before returning, but it went back today. for those of you who love Dior and Voluminous, don't waste your time and money on this!

i'm so~ disloyal to my cakeup. i'm always looking for something better to replace my HGs. =X is that bad? oh well. so yesterday, while i was @ mitsuwa looking for the dolly wink liquid liner (which i couldn't find), this little cookie caught my eye:

i don't know if it's good marketing (it probably is) but i fell for it again. the cute packaging and the word "tearbaby" made me believe that this liner could possibly challenge my HG liquid liner, k-palette 1-day tattoo. i tried to challenge my HG once before (w/ 24H), and k-palette won w/ flying colors -- no pun intended.

i just tried it on today. the color didn't go on as boldly as k-palette but maybe it just needs a little more use to get the tip going.

it's not that noticeable but the lashes on my right are a bit longer. (fyi-macbook webcam mirrors images).

i'm also wearing my new HG (but way too expensive) mascara: YSL Mascara Singulier

YSL is really proud of their new "3D" brush design and they even patented it. i was doubtful at first, but i really like this brush. it separates your lashes well but adds lots of volume. if you like Dior, you'll probably like YSL Singulier. something to note: this is the newer, updated version of the Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils. i found out that the Faux Cils (which i reviewed earlier) dries out quicker than this one. if anyone knows of a drugstore brand that's equivalent to YSL Singulier or Dior Blackout, please drop a line! btw - i've already tried L'Oréal Voluminous (my sista's HG) -- too clumpy for me, however.

coming from a person who never wanted to try lash enhancing chemicals, i have to say i was quite impressed by Revitalash when i saw my sister's n mom's lashes grow like non-koreans. lol it worked for me too, but it did take ~3-4 mos to notice a significant difference. HOWEVER, with Dea Bella, i noticed a difference in less than 2 mos.

how i tested:
in November of '09, i took a trip to Singapore and got lash extensions done -- which i absolutely HATED. (i think they used cheap hard lashes.) i ended up removing them myself, along with 50% of my own lashes. yes, it was OUCH! so when i got back from my trip, i was in great need of Revitalash. it was around this time when i found out about Dea Bella. a distant friend of mine had been using it, and her lashes were rumored to be super long. so i thought, why not give it a try?

fast forward ~2 mos and i had my full set of lashes again (or most of them at least)! i later started putting Revitalash on my left eye and Dea Bella on my right, and the lashes on my right eye (Dea Bella) are now longer and more full than my left. the only weird thing is that it hasn't worked so well on the outer corners of my LOWER lashes. can't explain that.

things to note: on application, Dea Bella stings EVERY TIME. i know some ppl who have experienced initial pain/tingling with Revitalash that eventually went away. i never felt any stinging with Revitalash. i have a pretty high tolerance for pain (ask my sister) and Dea Bella still bugs every time when i put it on. (OH the things i do for beauty!) i also worry that it's more harmful (chemically) than Revitalash because it stings so much, but i will continue to use it because i'm VAIN. haha =X price is comparable to Revitalash but i found it on a korean beauty website for approx 1/3 of the cost! (see link below)

i tried to take some close-up shots to show the difference between my left and right lashes but i couldn't get a good picture. i really need to buy one of those SLR cameras with a crazy macro lens. i'll post something for you guys to look @ soon!

i want to try Latisse one day but it's just so darn expensive! $120 for 2 mos (Latisse) vs. $55-$150 for a whole year (Revitalash, Dea Bella). ehhh... maybe one day.

YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils

well... let's see. i like this mascara a lot but it's not much better than Dior. here are my thoughts:

PROS: the brush is nice because it's not as bulky as Dior's, and the bristles are shorter and more fine (kind of like Voluminous), so it coats all of your lashes better, even the shorter ones. another plus point is that your lashes stay flexible even after 3 coats! it's a lightweight mascara that lengthens and thickens. it doesn't thicken as well as Dior, but it's better than others. it also holds a curl very well-- better than most! i don't even have to curl my lashes when i'm using this mascara. (well, that's also because after i started using Revitalash and Dea Bella, my lashes have been growing in a curve anyway.) either way, this mascara does not weigh your lashes down. it also has a pretty nice rosy scent. some ppl may not like this, but i find it pleasant.

CONS: the only thing i dislike about this mascara is it's huge price tag! $30 is way too much to spend on something you're only going to use for approx 2 mos. maybe if money wasn't an issue, i'd repurchase. i know Dior isn't much cheaper --and yes, i'm trying to find a cheaper alternative to my HG as well--but $30 is pretty up there. i can buy a whole tube of Laura Mercier primer for that price!

ok, i admit it. i'm a litttttttle obsessed w/ mascara. but part of the reason is -- i'm always looking for something better and more worth my money. i LOVE my Dior Blackout but it dries out so darn quickly (even when i have an ample amount of product left in the tube)! yea yea, i know you're supposed to discard mascara after 2 mos anyway (for hygienic reasons), but hey, i put it on when my face is the cleanest, so i'd like for it to last a little longer while there is still enough product left.

i promised myself (well, kinda sorta) not to spend more than $25 dollars on my mascaras but i broke that promise today with this:

YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils

it's supposed to be just as volumnizing as Dior but more lengthening. (lets see if it actually is!) a couple other reasons why i bought this mascara is that it's supposed to hydrate your lashes (won't leave them dry and brittle after you wash it off), and it's supposed to last longer than Dior -- meaning, the formula won't change consistency and harden as quickly. the only downside is the price - $30. i hope i'm getting what i paid for!

Revlon ColorStay - alternative to MUFE Aqua Eyes..?!

my lil cousin swears by the Revlon ColorStay eyeliner so i decided to give it a try -- and boy am i glad i did! i did an eye-by-eye test w/ Revlon on my left eye and Make Up For Ever on the right, and i have to say they are pretty equivalent. i am currently on day #2 of testing, and today, Revlon is winning. i haven't done a water test however...

i usually don't try out a lot of drugstore brands because i can't just buy them and return them like i do department store brands, but i think i will venture out a bit more now. i now have a new HG liner for less than half the price!

i bought mine at Rite Aid for ~$7 something, and i got a second one for half off. i bought #201 (black) and #202 (black brown -- for the more natural look).

**edit 2/16/10 - wore this w/ only setting it lightly w/ powder, and boy, did i turn into a panda! MUFE is a little more forgiving when you don't set completely. this drops Revlon a star. sorry cuz!**

quickie review: fiberwig mascara

i was so excited to try out this mascara (because it's been out for a while and some ppl are 'believers'), but i have to say that i was a little disappointed. it's supposed to lengthen and thicken, but for me, it didn't thicken enough. 2-3 coats of my HG mascara (Dior Blackout) = 5-7+ coats of Imju Fiberwig. some ppl recommend using another, more volumizing mascara underneath it -- but for $24, i think it should do both!! (BTW- if you buy it from an asian place, e.g., japanese markets or makeup/accessory place, you can get it for $19.99)

overall, i think it's OK. i'll test it out for a couple more days but i think this one's going back. i'm running out of Dior anyway, which is about the same price.

BEST.EVER eyeshadow primer

ok, for those of you w/ oily lids... this post is for you!

i've tried a variety of eyeshadow primers (e.g., toofaced, urban decay, mac paint pot in painterly -- to name a few). but mac paint (NOT paint pot) in bare canvas beats them all!

before i found this little jewel, i was using the urban decay eyeshadow primer (aka urban decay primer potion/UDPP). i'm actually still using it and will probably finish the horribly designed bottle so i don't waste.

what makes mac paint bare canvas superior to UDPP is its staying power and better packaging. urban decay does a pretty decent job at keeping my eye makeup on for most days, but sometimes, i still end up w/ slight oily creasing by the end of the day. however, w/ the mac paint, my eyeshadow (on both light and heavy wear days) looks matte ALL DAY. the packaging is good because it's hygienic (because you're not constantly dipping a sponge into the tube), and the product lasts longer because it's kept in an air-tight tube, which helps to keep the product fresh.

Where to Buy: you know where!
Overall Rating: 5+/5 stars
Tip: if you're already happy w/ urban decay primer potion (or whatever else you're using), you might not like this better. but for those of you w/ oily lids, you'll LOVE it. as w/ any primers, wear less than you think you need; you don't want to be able feel the product with your fingers after you apply. also, since the consistency of the product is thicker than UDPP, make sure you rub it in well, and do so quickly. it's thick but it dries quickly. lastly, don't moisturize your lids right before you put this on - it will make the primer less effective.

a couple of months ago, i had a bridal trial for my friend and fellow blogger, miss.t. before the trial, she sent me a photo of what type of look she was going for:

i consider this the retro-modern freshface look - dramatic eyes (liner and lashes) + natural everything else. i tried to mimic this look with a couple minor tweaks (e.g., darker lips, anime eyelashes).

lips: MAC pro longwear lipcolour (unchanging + clear)

a couple of things i might change:
* foundation to MAC studio fix fluid in NC25 (for overall) and NW25 for undereyes. why? because studio fix is lightweight and offers more full coverage and ultra long wear.
* add a shimmer over the blush and highlight. i'll most likely use my new shu uemura tsumori chisato limited edition duo color highlighter golden snow.

this isn't a full review but i just wanted to post about my new purchase! i've been looking for a peachy blush so i can wear on my natural days, but i wanted one w/ some shimmer. (my everyday blush is the typical NARS - orgasm but i wanted something with less pink and more peach.) here's what i ended up buying:

MAC Mineralize - cheek & cheerful (cute name!) out of the package, it looks like a light bronzer. depending on your skin type/color, you might be able to use it as a bronzer.

here's what it looks like using a very light hand:

if you wanted to make it more dramatic, you can. sorry, i don't have one of those crazy cameras that show great detail. it looks great in person!

well, so i wore cheek & cheerful today. i still like it but i realized that it's quite similar to my bronzer. you really have to use very little of it in order to get the peachy look. layer a little more, and you're face is pretty bright. i still rate it a 4 (because it IS a good product and wears well) but it's not exactly what i was looking for.

so when i was out n about today, i bought this:

NARS - luster

this is a color you'd normally think is too light to put on, but it's not. it may look light when you smear it on your finger, but on your face (esp if you're more fair), the color shows up pretty well.
